Impact focused science and engineering

for some of earth’s greatest challenges.

The team at Adept Aqua are inventing and commercialising solutions for complex problems at the nexus of Climate, Water and Energy.

Our Mission:

Protecting and regenerating our rivers and waterways.
Improving the odds of survival for our critically endangered native species.
Decarbonising water oxygenation globally.

The Problems:

Depleted levels of dissolved oxygen are threatening the health and survival of rivers and waterways globally. The increased frequency of ecological disasters, some of which are very close to home, such as the mass fish kills in Menindee within the Murray Darling Basin, is affecting our endangered native species and our regional/remote communities that are particularly vulnerable to our changing environment.

Our solution:

We utilise renewable energy to oxygenate water. Water passing through our solution powers an oxygen concentrator. This simple, novel approach enables deployment of oxygen concentrators across millions of square kilometres of river systems by dramatically reducing both the technical and commercial barriers to adoption.

In fact: The underlying inventions (which members of our team co-invented), have already been deployed via a not-for-profit organisation, in the treatment of critically ill children east Africa, who (like our rivers, waterways and native species) were suffering from a lack of oxygen.

Note: The co-inventors were awarded the 2017 ANSTO Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology.

Adept Aqua is both commercialising those same inventions (actualising its dual-use potential) while also conceptualising and then commercializing new inventions, within this completely new area of focus (nature/climate).

The common thread between the MedTech NFP, and the team at Adept Aqua, is a burning desire to deliver positive impact through the research, development and delivery of DeepTech solutions to critically important problems.

Local impact & global potential

Climate change is affecting water health the world-over.

Beyond our initial focus of protecting and regenerating Australian waterways for the humans, animals and plants which live within it and depend upon it, our solution has the potential to improve the health of global rivers and waterways, such as Whanganui (NZ), the Mississippi (US), the Amazon (South America), Thames (UK), and the Araks (South Caucasus).

There are significantly large additional market opportunities such as the global aquaculture industry, which is booming, however, it is also hampered by the cost and complexity of the incumbent oxygenation solutions.

Acknowledgement of the Traditional Owners of the Murray-Darling Basin

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners, and their Nations, of the Murray-Darling Basin, and their deep and profound connection to their lands and waters. We recognise the ongoing trauma these increasingly frequent environmental disasters are causing, which are critically endangering native fish within their waters. (eg. Murray Hardyhead & Stocky Galaxias)

We respect the inherent connectivity of the river, people, animals and plants, and the deep impact on the Barkandji people when one of these is disturbed.
